About Santa's Pantry, Inc.
Santa's Pantry, Inc. is a year-round non-profit 501C(3) organization, composed of all volunteers, that works with the Pay It Forward Foundation (PIFF) and promotes the Pay It Forward Movement in Indiana through events, activities and projects.
We are NOT a food pantry. However, we work closely with pantries and other 501C(3) organizations to determine needs in the community to base our events/projects on. Then we "Pay Forward" the donations received at our events to the 501C(3) organizations.
We believe that everyone can do something to make a difference. It doesn't have to be anything big or cost a lot of money. Often times the simplest deed didn't cost a dime but meant the world to someone else. Many of us have talents such as writing, teaching, sewing, gardening or just listening that can be used to help others. We are always looking for volunteers to help us promote the movement. Simon and Debbie Micola are the founders of Santa's Pantry. They are another example of how you "Never know how deep your kind deed will effect others". They had both been the receipients of Pay It Forward deeds. In 1991, Debbie and her daughter were in a car accident in which the car rolled off a bridge and into the water. Two strangers saved her daughters life from the submerged car. All they asked.... "do something good for someone else". In 2007 while volunteering at a food pantry and having to turn a father away for help with food for his children, the Micolas were reminded of when they were in a situation beyond their control and total strangers helped them. They realized at that point, their mission was to promote Paying it Forward.
Since the Micola's had played "Santa and Mrs. Claus" for years, they felt this was a "talent" they could use to help others. They started offering free pictures in exchange for food donations. This idea and project quickly grew into other ideas and projects. People started contacting them to volunteer and offer other ideas. Soon the one idea turned into a year-round non-profit organization and thus the name Santa's Pantry came about.
Since the start in January 2008, Santa's Pantry has raised over 20,000 pounds of food for local pantries. Raised over 1700 books for the unemployed. Raised over 1500 boxes of school supplies for children and much more. They beleive the possibilities are endless when people work together as one and Pay It Forward.
